Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki - Book Review

First published in Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki is a personal finance and investment book. The book teaches you how it is necessary to have a education but not necessarily a school education. He tells the story of his two dads, one being his actual dad who is poor and the other being his best friends dad who is a multi-millionaire, and he tells us the lessons he learned from both of them.

Robert T. Kiyosaki is a best selling author, motivational speaker, invester and businessman. He has written over 15 books having sold over 26 million copies. He has also created his own 'Cashflow' board game and he has also created his own range of CDs and software in his 'Rich Dad' series.

Robert Kiyosaki gained major popularity for his books and his teachings. Will Smith said in an interview he was teaching his son about financial responsibility by reading this book. Oprah Winfrey endorsed this book on her show while billionaire Donald Trump co-wrote some books with Mr Kiyosaki entitled Midas Touch and Why we want you to be Rich

In April 2012 Robert Kiyosaki filled for cooperate bankruptcy after losing $24 million and ordered to pay it over to the Learning Annex founder, Bill Zanker. Apparently Bill Zanker made the brand blow up and increased its popularity to what it is and when it came to paying up Kiyosaki never did.

The book tells us about Kiyosaki's upbringing in Hawaii, USA and his personal story. It also teaches us the difference of upbringing of how rich parents would bring up and their children and how poor parents would bring up their children. He explains the difference between assets and liabilities and He goes on to tell us how rich people get their money to work for them while poor people work for their money. He explains all about the basics of finances while also writing in a great style.

Robert has a great way of writing while mixing in anecdotes about his personal life and other peoples lives and also mixing in great lessons along the way.

The author tells us the importance of entrepreneurship and investing. The book focuses on investing and he tells us how important it is to invest in various different things such as real estate and the stock market. Starting off Robert Kiyosaki had great difficulty getting the book Rich Dad Poor Dad published because all the publishers were turning him down while even Barnes and Noble initially refused to stock the book. Slowly it was picked up by the NY Times Best Seller List. Kiyosaki also contributes part of his success to radio appearances and public speaking.

However many people claim the book is full of inaccuracies, wrong information and unrealistic expectations such as start investing from a really young age. He does teach us that the education system is flawed as they don't tell you how to take care of your personal finance.

Throughout the book he contrasts what his poor dad says to his rich dad. For example, if his poor dad say "Love of money is the root to all evil" but his rich dad says "The lack of money is the root to all evil", he follows his rich dads advice and makes money but says his poor dad was morally correct.
