Permission Marketing - Seth Godin Book Review

Permission Marketing: Turning Strangers Into Friends And Friends Into Customers is a book by marketing guru Seth Godin. This book details how you should use permission marketing into your business as this brings in the most customers. Permission Marketing as you guessed it means getting permission from the customer before you advance to the sales process. Permission marketing can be anything from 'Join my mailing list and get free ebooks sent to you' or 'Like this page and have a chance to win a car'. Permission marketing was a term that was just popularized by Seth Godin has been known for many years before Seth Godin.

Seth Godin is a famous entrepreneur, marketer and blogger who resides in America. Godin founded the site Squidoo in 2006 and Squidoo has since become one of the 500 most visited sites in the world. Godin has authored 15 books and is the author of many best selling books such as All Marketers are Liars and The Dip. Seth Godin is one of the brightest minds out there and you can learn a lot from him.

Seth writes in his book that the normal way that marketers used to get their consumers attention does not work anymore. For example a television commercial playing in the middle of the program you were watching or a telemarketer calling you while you are busy eating, this is called interruption marketing and is the complete opposite of Permission marketing. He goes on to say that in todays day and age, interruption marketing no longer works. He claims using Interruption marketing just annoys your potential customer.

He goes on to say how Permission marketing builds a much long term lasting relationship with the customer, and how it increases trust, brand awareness and also increases the chance of parting with the customers money.

Godin tells us about the four tests of Permission Marketing:
1. Does every single marketing effort you create encourage a learning relationship with your customers? Does it invite customers to "raise their hands" and start communicating?
2. Do you have a permission database? Do you track the number of people who have given you permission to communicate with them?
3. If consumers gave you permission to talk to them, would you have anything to say? Have you developed a marketing curriculum to teach people about your products?
4. Once people become customers, do you work to deepen your permission to communicate with those people?

Also in this jam packed informative book, Seth also includes many real life case studies such as Amazon and Yahoo. He shows how big companies are using permission marketing effectively and gaining more customers through using permission marketing.

The book was first written in 1999 and some readers may find this outdated as some of the examples and case studies used are not up to date and do not include the latest examples. However if you can look past this then this should be no problem for you. Seth also does have the tendency to repeat himself and sometimes he does repeat the same point over and over again. From time to time he also uses contradictory statements in his book.

All in all this is a very well written book that will help you understand the term permission marketing. It will also help you implement permission marketing in your business and help grow your business. It is slightly outdated however that is not such a big issue. Seth is an excellent author and we highly recommend this book as you will end up learning a lot from this book. Please click here to buy this book on Amazon.

Mastery - Robert Greene Book Review

Mastery is something very few people achieve throughout their life. When you think of mastery you might think of greats such as Muhammad Ali, Leonardo Di Vinci, Thomas Edison and other famous figures throughout history. While these mentioned were exceptionally talented at their chosen field, they all had mastery in their field.

Mastery is a book by the renowned author Robert Greene who has also written many bestsellers such great book as The Art of Seduction and The 48 Laws of Power. Greene was born in Los Angeles, USA and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison  with a BA in classical studies. Before becoming a successful author, Robert estimates he has worked at over 80 jobs including construction worker and Hollywood movie writer. A great quote by Robert Greene “The future belongs to those who learn more skills and combine them in creative ways.”

In Mastery, Robert Greene discusses and examines great figures past and present such as Charles Darwin, Henry Ford, Freddie Roach - he tells the different traits and factors that made them masters and how you can apply them to your life and become a master in anything. Mastery has reached The New York Times Bestseller list and was also featured in countless publications including; The Huffington Post, CNN Money, Business Insider and Forbes.

For his research of the book, Greene interviewed many different people each successful in their own right. He interviewed people like Paul Graham, Temple Grandin and V.S. Ramachandran . Best Selling author, Tim Ferriss who has written The Four Hour Workweek and The Four Hour Chef also recommends this book highly and says this is one of the best books he has read. Among Tim Ferriss many celebrities and famous figures have praised this book and claim it has changed their life.

The book is just over 350 pages and is packed with useful advice, helpful information and great resources. Mastery was published in 2012 and is the latest book published by Mr Greene. The book is split into six sections and each section deals with different aspects of mastery

Mastery teaches its users many things such as how we should always follow our passion and not just follow a path just for money and fame. Greene talks about following your passion and to be successful truly successful you should follow your passion. Robert gives many examples of people who have followed their passion and gone on to become successful.

He also goes on to tell us how natural talent and skill is not enough to achieve success and mastery. Its all about hard work and persistence and never giving up. He tells us how there are thousands of children who display brilliance, talent and skill but yet few of them go on to achieve. Natural talent or High IQ cannot explain future achievements or success.

Robert Greene tell us how we should all have a mentor how we should learn through existing masters so we can better ourselves:

  • Three steps to finding your area of focus
    • #1 Connect with your inclinations
      • In order to master a field, you must love the subject and feel a profound connection to it. Your interest must transcend the field itself and border on the religious.
    • #2 Choose the right career based on those inclinations…avoid the false path!
      • A false path in life is generally something we are attracted to for the wrong reasons—money, fame, attention, and so on.
    • #3 See your career as a journey with twists and turns. Focus on the long-term
      • The road to mastery requires patience. You will have to keep your focus on five or ten years down the road, when you will reap the rewards of your efforts.

You should also focus on the main things in life and focus on mastering them.

However it does sometimes read like a self-help book and has tendencies of including those classic self help clichés like 'you can do it' and ' if you put your mind to it...' Some people tend to dislike these old clichés however if you can filter past these then you will benefit from this book.

Some of us may never achieve mastery at anything. Realistically it may be either because we are too stupid, too lazy, not enough ambition, too stupid, too happy, not educated enough or have obstacles in place such as looking after children or elderly parents.

Mastery is a great book and if you actually implement the steps found in this book like Always stay focused and Find a mentor. The steps actually do help you and will change your life if you put the steps to action. Many successful people have cited this book as a major influence on their success. Now to leave you with a quote from Robert Greene, “The key then to attaining this higher level of intelligence is to make our years of study qualitatively rich. We don't simply absorb information - we internalize it and make it our own by finding some way to put this knowledge to practical use.”

Awaken the Giant Within - Anthony Robbins book review

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/0743409388/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_til?tag=velper08-21&camp=1406&creative=6394&linkCode=as1&creativeASIN=0743409388&adid=130WYX1R1YD19ZCC32P5&Anthony 'Tony' Robbins is one of the most profound and well known self help gurus and author of Awaken the Giant Within: How to Immediate Control of Your Mental, Emotional, Physical and Financial Life . Robbins is a highly successful motivational speaker, author, life coach and occasional actor, when he gets time. The topics Robbins writes about vary, from writing about removing fear and increasing confidence to making more money and taking control of your life. Tony Robbins has been featured in many newspapers, magazines and TV channels including Forbes, Newsweek, GQ, OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network), Fortune Magazine and many other media publications. Robbins is the founder of nine successful companies with combined gross revenues of more than $50 million a year.

Awaken the Giant Within is a very long book measuring at over 500 pages. However Tony Robbins invites - dares - you to take control responsibility for you  to create a life that you will love and cherish and live in accordance to your dreams and desires. Nearly every page is jam packed with advice and strategies you can implement into your life straight away. So you will be able to see change and improvement in a couple of days, if not quicker!

When you see Tony Robbins delivering one of his motivational speeches or if you attend one of his seminars you will see he always delivers them in an enthusiastic and powerful style. You can feel the energy that he brings to stage. Here is Robbins delivering one of his powerful speeches, you should have a feeling of empowerment running through you by the end of the video:

As you can see Robbins has an outstanding presence and is very motivational and very knowledgeable about life. A lot of celebrities and famous people have been coached or helped through his books. People include Bill Clinton, Nelson Mandela, Pamela Anderson and many others.

In Awaken the Giant Within the author talks about a technique he likes to call Neuro-Associative Conditioning. Robbins tells us that some behaviours we do are because we do because we want to avoid change and associate change with pain and they associate their old behaviour with pleasure. An example might include a person not wanting to exercise because he associates it with too much hard work while he might see just playing on the PlayStation an easier option. Robbins goes on to say that there are six steps to change this behaviour:

  1. Decide. He says that to make any change whether physical or mental, we must first make a strong commitment to change.
  2. Get leverage. To start changing and to motivate the person, he/she should make sure they associate their bad and old habits as malicious and painful and their new good habits with joy and pleasure.
  3. Interrupt the old pattern. He uses a very strong neuro-linguistic programming technique. It is a very useful method. If you feel like you are going to go back to your old habit or behaviours do something unexpected to shock yourself.  He writes in Awaken The Giant Within, "Next time you start to feel depressed, jump up, look at the sky, and yell in your most idiotic tone of voice, 'Hallelujah! My feet don't stink today!' A stupid, silly move like that will definitely shift your attention." Robbins frequently compares interrupting patterns to scratching a record so that it will no longer play properly.
  4. Create a new pattern. You must have a new habit to replace the old one with.
  5. Condition the new pattern. The fifth step entails having to keep on repeating the new habit until it becomes a habit.
  6. Test it. Put yourself
Tony uses a lot of Neuro-Linguistic Programming throughout the book and he explains it interrupts our pattern of thought and creates leverage to help and motivate us to stay on track with our new decisions and habits. Leverage is achieved by creating pain to move away in our minds and create pleasure to move towards. This book will help you improve your existing businesses, make you become a better entrepreneur and help you become a better person overall.

He explains the different methods and techniques of Neuro-Linguistic Programming in a way that is simple and understand and very accessible, avoiding getting technical or using jargon.

This is a great book and in my opinion Tony Robbins is a genius. He has also helped millions of people and is a great life coach and speaker. There are many powerful techniques included in this book that if implemented properly can change your life. If you would like to buy this book then please click here to buy it on Amazon.

Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki - Book Review

First published in Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki is a personal finance and investment book. The book teaches you how it is necessary to have a education but not necessarily a school education. He tells the story of his two dads, one being his actual dad who is poor and the other being his best friends dad who is a multi-millionaire, and he tells us the lessons he learned from both of them.

Robert T. Kiyosaki is a best selling author, motivational speaker, invester and businessman. He has written over 15 books having sold over 26 million copies. He has also created his own 'Cashflow' board game and he has also created his own range of CDs and software in his 'Rich Dad' series.

Robert Kiyosaki gained major popularity for his books and his teachings. Will Smith said in an interview he was teaching his son about financial responsibility by reading this book. Oprah Winfrey endorsed this book on her show while billionaire Donald Trump co-wrote some books with Mr Kiyosaki entitled Midas Touch and Why we want you to be Rich

In April 2012 Robert Kiyosaki filled for cooperate bankruptcy after losing $24 million and ordered to pay it over to the Learning Annex founder, Bill Zanker. Apparently Bill Zanker made the brand blow up and increased its popularity to what it is and when it came to paying up Kiyosaki never did.

The book tells us about Kiyosaki's upbringing in Hawaii, USA and his personal story. It also teaches us the difference of upbringing of how rich parents would bring up and their children and how poor parents would bring up their children. He explains the difference between assets and liabilities and He goes on to tell us how rich people get their money to work for them while poor people work for their money. He explains all about the basics of finances while also writing in a great style.

Robert has a great way of writing while mixing in anecdotes about his personal life and other peoples lives and also mixing in great lessons along the way.

The author tells us the importance of entrepreneurship and investing. The book focuses on investing and he tells us how important it is to invest in various different things such as real estate and the stock market. Starting off Robert Kiyosaki had great difficulty getting the book Rich Dad Poor Dad published because all the publishers were turning him down while even Barnes and Noble initially refused to stock the book. Slowly it was picked up by the NY Times Best Seller List. Kiyosaki also contributes part of his success to radio appearances and public speaking.

However many people claim the book is full of inaccuracies, wrong information and unrealistic expectations such as start investing from a really young age. He does teach us that the education system is flawed as they don't tell you how to take care of your personal finance.

Throughout the book he contrasts what his poor dad says to his rich dad. For example, if his poor dad say "Love of money is the root to all evil" but his rich dad says "The lack of money is the root to all evil", he follows his rich dads advice and makes money but says his poor dad was morally correct.

If you found this review interesting then please buy the book from Amazon.

The Magic of Thinking Big - David Schwartz - Book Review

An excellent Internet marketer may need some help from time to time. This book put simply will do more then just help you, it will help you achieve your goals, help you manage better, find greater happiness and much more. The Magic of Thinking Big will actually get you to think about the way you currently perform certain tasks and will help you become more productive about it. First we may need an introduction on the author.

David J. Schwartz was an American motivational coach and speaker and was born in 1927. He was a professor at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. He also had his own consultancy firm which specialised in leadership development and he had a Ph.D.

With over 4 million copies sold worldwide this is one of the most popular books on motivation, setting goals and achieving what you want. This book teaches you how to get the most out of family, work life and your business in terms of getting to where you want. The Magic of Thinking Big  uses many different useful methods and also helps you to change your mindset and attitude towards working.

The book is split into several chapters and each chapter focuses on improving different traits. Some of the things you can learn from this book include; how to build your confidence and overcome fear, how to take action, thinking like a leader and getting over procrastination while also dealing with many more problems.

This book is not just a shelf filler and is certainly not one of your standard average 'self-help' books that claim to do many things but don't do anything. This book will change your life if you implement the things mentioned in this book and actually take action.

Schwartz explains in his book how our mind is really powerful and if we use our mind properly we can achieve success and financial freedom. Schwartz is a very skilled writer and uses storytelling to explain his points further to the reader and provide examples. He keeps the reader interested and his writing style is a joy to read.

In the start of the book the author explains the importance of implementing positive beliefs and how you should always remain optimistic. Remember the sporting giant, Adidas's slogan 'Impossible is Nothing', this book tells you to think like that. If you don't think you can do it, then you probably can't. When you start thinking you can do it and be successful, that is when you will truly succeed.

This book also tells you about the different types of excuses that people come out with such as "I'm not good enough, or "I'm too old/young" . The author tells us these excuses are just little reasons that our brain comes up with for not wanting to do something. He also tells you how to deal with this quickly and effectively.

The book is packed full of helpful information and nuggets of advice and this is a very valuable book. As an internet marketer, this book will help you come over self-doubt, increase your confidence, give you motivation to implement your ideas and make you think properly. This book literally pays for itself in value and is very informative. This book contains exercises at the end of each chapter, that the reader can use to apply the principles learned to yourself. At the end of each chapter, the author provides summaries which are useful. If you liked this review, then buy the book now, you won't regret it!

Now to end this review with a quote by Doctor David J. Schwartz;

"Believe it can be done. When you believe something can be done, really believe, your mind will find the ways to do it. Believing a solution paves the way to solution.”
